Balmoral Hat-Trick for Golanview Ewe
It was a clean sweep for the Golanview flock of Ryan McLaren, Dromore, Co. Tyrone, in this year’s British Berrichon classes at Balmoral Show.
As the sole exhibitor in the breed section, the championship was guaranteed to Golanview — but Ryan still presented an impressive lineup of nearly a dozen sheep across the various classes for Swansea-based judge Ifan Beynon-Thomas to assess.
Mr. Beynon-Thomas, who runs the UK’s largest British Berrichon flock, Goitre, awarded the championship to Golanview Worshipful, a senior ewe who claimed the title for an outstanding third consecutive year. The reserve championship went to a well-presented ram lamb.
In her individual class, Golanview Worshipful led the way ahead of flockmates Zendaya and Zenyatta, who placed second and third respectively. The ‘any age’ ram class, featuring four entries, was won by Criffel Zohan, a Burgess-bred ram owned by Ryan. In the ewe lamb class, two Golanview entries were also among the prizewinners.
