History

 

Origins of the Breed:

Established in France in Berry region of France, the original breed was crossed with a merino in the mid 1780s, further improvements were made in the mid 1800s with the introduction of the Dishley Leicester.

The Berrichon du cher flock book was established, through the National Research Institute testing center, in 1936.

The British Berrichon du cher Society was formed in 1986 and continues to grow from strength to strength. 

Breed in the future:

The society is run by a council of 9 nominated members, a president and 3 honourary life members.
